Iron Bridge Collapses Due To An Overloaded Truck.

Sabroom, Tripura, 23rd of May, 2025 : An iron bridge in Baisnabpur village area under Sabroom Subdivision collapsed on Friday (23rd May, 2025) due to an overloaded truck. After receiving information, the residents of Baisnabpur are in extreme distress due to the recklessness of the truck drivers by the contractor company. A divesting road accident took place in Baisnabpur ADC Village area of Sabroom Subdivision of South Tripura District on Friday morning. According to local sources, at around 6 am this morning, an overloaded stone-laden truck crossed over a 15-ton iron bridge near Mongsangei Para in Baishnabpur, when the bridge collapsed within a moment.

The truck was carrying stones for construction work in the border area. However, the weight of the vehicle was much higher than the bridge’s capacity, which is believed to be the main cause of the accident. Today was the Baisnabpur market. As a result, many people were travelling on the bridge since morning. Although there were a few pedestrians on the bridge at the time of the accident, surprisingly, no one was seriously injured. The people of the area narrowly escaped a major loss of life.

The incident has temporarily disrupted the activities of Baisnabpur market. In addition, the communication system in the area has also been disrupted due to the lack of alternative roads. The local administration has informed that appropriate measures will be taken after investigating the incident quickly and alternative steps will be taken to restore communication.

Local residents have alleged that the administration has not paid attention to the maintenance of the bridge despite repeated requests. They demand stronger infrastructure and a system for carrying loads in accordance with regulations to avoid such incidents from happening again in the future. The incident has created a stir in the area. It is learnt that the administration is focusing on rescue and further steps.
