Agartala, Tripura, 18th of February, 2025 : Hon’ble Minister for Environment & Climate Change, Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra Smt. Pankaja Gopinath Munde visited Tripura today (18th February, 2025) to explore potential collaboration with the Tripura Bamboo Mission. The Maharashtra Government aims to establish a knowledge partnership with Tripura to gain insights into the state’s successful bamboo sector.

During the visit, Minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde emphasized the need for Maharashtra to learn from Tripura’s expertise in bamboo cultivation and its applications. To facilitate this, Maharashtra will send a team of scientists and officials to study the impact of bamboo on groundwater levels, soil erosion control, and the suitability of different bamboo species for Maharashtra’s climate. Understanding bamboo growth patterns will be a key area of focus.
Minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde highly appreciated Tripura’s achievements in the bamboo sector and expressed interest in leveraging bamboo as an alternative energy source to reduce dependency on coal for electricity production. The Maharashtra Government is also keen on acquiring bulk quantities of bamboo seedlings for large-scale plantation initiatives. Minister Munde also visited the Bamboo & Cane Development Institute (BCDI), bamboo nursery and plantation site. She also interacted with bamboo jewellery artisans, appreciating their craftsmanship and skills.
This initiative will adoptive knowledge sharing between the two states, contributing to sustainable environmental practices and alternative energy solutions. Director, Tripura Bamboo Mission has informed this through a Press Release.
