Dharmanagar, Tripura, 26th of May 2026 : Under the initiative of Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and under the supervision of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, 24 new ambulance services Allocation across the state of Tripura. As part of this initiative, five new ambulance services were officially launched on Monday at the office premises of the Chief Medical Officer in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district.

The inauguration ceremony was formally conducted by Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty, who flagged off the ambulances and cut the ribbon to mark the commencement of the services. Among those present were North District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dipak Halder along with several officials and staff members of the Health Department. In the presence of all attendees, the newly introduced ambulances were officially flagged off and dedicated to public service. These five ambulances will mainly provide services to the areas of Damchhara, Bajendranagar, Guchirampara, Uptakhali, and Dharmanagar. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Jahar Chakraborty stated that the introduction of these new ambulances would further strengthen and improve emergency healthcare services in the region. He added that the initiative would be especially beneficial for people living in remote and inaccessible areas by ensuring quicker access to medical assistance.
Officials of the Health Department also stated that the new ambulance services were introduced with the objective of further improving the state’s healthcare infrastructure and delivering emergency medical services to people at their doorstep. They said the initiative would help save valuable time in patient transportation and ensure faster medical assistance during emergencies. However, dissatisfaction was also observed among a section of the media fraternity regarding the inauguration programme. Strong resentment has reportedly spread among journalists over the allegation that most media houses in Dharmanagar were not invited and were completely excluded from covering the important government event. Allegations have surfaced that a public programme funded by taxpayers’ money was deliberately restricted to only one or two selected individuals, while a large section of the media was kept away.
A section of journalists claimed that the role of the media is extremely important in a democratic system. Yet, most reporters were allegedly deprived of even the minimum opportunity to gather news from the government function. According to them, this not only insulted journalists but also hampered the public’s right to information.Questions are now being raised as to why transparency was not maintained in a public welfare-oriented healthcare programme and why media presence was allegedly restricted. The role of the Health Department in this matter has also become a topic of discussion in various circles.
