Agartala, Tripura, 8th of September, 2026 : New Capital Complex (NCC) Police have arrested another accused in connection with the alleged snatching of a gold chain from a student on Sukanta Palli Road near Shanti Kumi Club on August 29, 2026. The accused has been identified as Goutam Deb. The arrest was carried out by SI Zainal Hossain, the investigating officer handling the case.
The accused, Goutam Deb, was presented before the court today as police requested custody for further questioning and investigation.
According to reports, the incident took place on August 29, 2026, when student Papia Debbarma was travelling with her friend from their rented accommodation near Abhoynagar Veterinary Hospital towards the Buddhist Temple. At Sukanta Palli, three persons allegedly approached them in an electric auto-rickshaw and blocked their way. The accused reportedly snatched a gold chain weighing around one bhori from Papia Debbarma’s neck before fleeing the area.

During the investigation, the investigating officer first arrested Mithun Bhowmik, one of the accused in the robbery case, and seized the electric auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR01L 9366, which was allegedly used in the crime. The accused was subsequently produced before the court.
Police have reportedly identified the involvement of other individuals in the incident, some of whom are yet to be arrested. A search operation is underway to locate the absconding suspects and make further arrests in connection with the case.
