Agartala, 20th of February 2024 : With the initiative of Transport Department Government of Tripura observance of National Road Safety Month -2024 at Swami Vivekananda Ground, Agartala on Tuesday (20th February, 2024). The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other dignitaries.
“Road accidents and loss of life can be avoided only through awareness and precautionary measures. So drivers, passengers and pedestrians must follow all road safety rules.”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the observance of National Road Safety Month. He said many people were seriously injured or lost their lives due to road accidents. Younger boys and girls are more victims. Most are between 18 and 35 years old. As a result, it has an impact on the socio-economic field as well.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving importance to the issue of road safety. For this, various steps are being taken constantly. The State Government has also taken various steps to prevent road accidents. The goal of the Government is to reduce road accidents to zero. Accident prone areas are identified as blackspots. Necessary measures are being taken from the Department of Transport and Defense by identifying the areas where road accidents are more frequent. The Chief Minister said that presently various roads in the State are being widened. Along with that, the number of vehicles has also increased.
The Chief Minister also said that the State Government has given importance to the use of modern technology to prevent road accidents. Various technologies including CC cameras are being used to curb the reckless speed of vehicles. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to build more than 1,000 restrooms across the country considering the health and rest of long-distance drivers.
Addressing on the occasion, Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, said that various programs have been taken up in every district of the State to celebrate the National Road Safety Month. Road safety is very important to all the citizens especially the coming generation boys and girls. Many people are losing their lives prematurely under the influence of traffic terrorism. Even if the Government, administration or police administration wants to, it will not be possible to stop it, until awareness about it increases among themselves. The transport minister said, today we need to take oath to use seat belts as drivers or passengers and use helmets as two-wheeler drivers and riders. The Chief Minister along with other guests unveiled the road safety quiz booklet on the occasion. Helmets were also distributed among some students. The Chief Minister and present guests flagged off the road safety mobile car and releasing balloons to celebration of Road Safety month.
Amidst the other distinguished participants there were Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, Secretary of Transport Department Uttam Kumar Chakma, Transport Commissioner Uttam Mandal, Additional Secretary of Transport Department Subrata Choudhury, Students of difference Schools and many other dignitaries were present in the programme.
