Sabroom, Tripura, 24th of August, 2026 : An incident of alleged assault took place at Sabroom Vidyajyoti English Medium School under the Sabroom subdivision. Bikash Tripura (13) the only son of a resident of Monsing Para near Kalachhara Bazar, is a Class VII student at the school.
On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during the second period, computer teacher Pratik Chakraborty entered the Class VII classroom to conduct the lesson. While checking the students’ handwriting, the teacher allegedly noticed food items kept under Bikash Tripura’s notebook. When Bikash reportedly attempted to throw them out through the classroom window, the teacher called him back.
According to the allegation, Pratik Chakraborty lost his temper and repeatedly struck the student with several canes held together in his hand.
Bikash Tripura reportedly informed his family about the incident after returning home. His family alleged that he was in severe pain and could not sleep throughout the night.
The following day, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, his parents brought the injured student to the school and informed Principal Chandan Kumar Debnath about the entire incident. The principal then held a lengthy discussion in his office with computer teacher Pratik Chakraborty, other teachers, and Bikash’s parents regarding the matter.
During the discussion, it was decided that the school authorities would take responsibility for keeping in regular contact with Bikash Tripura’s family and monitoring his well-being and any difficulties he may face.
According to the parents, the physical condition of Class VII student Bikash Tripura has been deteriorating and is reportedly becoming serious. Observing his condition, the family took him to the nearby Kalachhara Primary Health Centre, where he was admitted for treatment.
The family alleged that the school authorities have not contacted them even once to enquire about Bikash Tripura’s physical condition since the incident.
Seeking a fair investigation into the alleged assault of Class VII student Bikash Tripura by teacher Pratik Chakraborty, the family filed a complaint at Sabroom Police Station on August 19, 2026.
After learning about the complaint, the school principal, along with three other teachers, reportedly visited Bikash Tripura’s residence at Kalachhara. According to the family, the school representatives requested them to withdraw the complaint. The family expressed dissatisfaction over the request, questioning why the school authorities had not come forward earlier to enquire about Bikash’s condition.
