Amarpur, Tripura, 19th of January, 2025 : St. Joseph Vaz Parish in Gamaku and Burburia, under the Amarpur block of Gomati District, Tripura, marked a momentous occasion with a triple celebration on January 19, 2025. The festivities included the feast of St. Francis de Sales (SFS), the feast of St. Joseph Vaz, and the Silver Jubilee of the Gamaku and Burburia Roman Catholic Faith. The event was an initiative of Rev. Fr. Lijeesh Mathew, MSFS, and the Catholic faithfuls of Amarpur Parish, and was observed with remarkable enthusiasm and devotion. The celebrations were graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Most Rev. Lumen Monteiro, Bishop of Agartala Diocese, who inaugurated and blessed the event. His presence highlighted the significance of the occasion, as 15 churches under the parish participated in the celebrations, bringing together a large number of faithful from different Catholic communities.

In his address, Most Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro expressed his gratitude to Almighty God for the profound grace bestowed upon the parish. “I am thankful to Almighty God for His blessings upon this parish and the people’s unwavering faith in Christ,” he said. “I look forward to seeing this parish shine brightly in the future, as its preachers toil to bring people from darkness to light and establish the kingdom of God.”

The celebrations were marked by a series of indigenous cultural performances, showcasing the rich traditions of the local Catholic community. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Lijeesh Mathew, these performances added a unique touch to the Silver Jubilee program, making it even more memorable for all attendees. The celebration also included devotional prayers, hymns, and a communal Eucharistic service that brought together the parish community in unity. Among the distinguished dignitaries who attended the event were Biren Datta Jamatia, the PPC Secretary, and Rabindralal Jamatia, the Catechist of Amarpur Parish, along with numerous Catholic Church members who had gathered from the various parishes in the region. The Triple Celebration at St. Joseph Vaz Parish in Burburia not only marked the religious significance of the feasts but also reflected the vibrant faith and unity of the Catholic community in Amarpur, under the dedicated leadership of Rev. Fr. Lijeesh Mathew and the guidance of Bishop Lumen Monteiro.
