Agartala, Tripura, 10th of December, 2024 : With the initiative of Tripura Human Rights Commission celebrated International Human Rights Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala on Tuesday (10th December, 2024). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing at the celebration of Human Rights Day Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said, Ensuring the fundamental rights of citizens is the foundation of democracy. The Central and State Governments are committed to protecting the human rights of citizens. The State Government is making efforts to ensure that the human rights of citizens are not violated in any way. Our country’s civilization and culture are the best in the world. A well-planned divisive force is still trying to destroy it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked everyone to follow the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. And only if we follow this idea will the observance of Human Rights Day be fruitful. The Chief Minister said that even though the Human Rights Protection Act was enacted in 1993, the previous state government did not take any active steps to form a Human Rights Commission. After the Supreme Court’s order, the Tripura Human Rights Commission was formed in 2016. But this commission could not make any impact in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people. The newly formed current commission is resolving complaints of human rights violations with great responsibility and is working to increase awareness about the rights and duties of the people.

Chief Minister also added that the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, three newly formulated laws i.e. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) shall come into force from July 1, 2024. The objective behind formulating these new laws is – to modernize the system of criminal justice, to expedite the process of justice and ensure protection of the affected party. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has replaced the Indian Penal Code – 1860, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure – 1973 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam has replaced the Indian Evidence Act – 1872.

The theme of this year’s International  Human Rights Day 2024 is ‘Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,’ which highlights the impact of human rights on people’s lives every day.
