Dharmanagar, Tripura, 27th of April 2026 : The Durgapur railway crossing on the crucial road connecting Dharmanagar to Bagbasa in North Tripura has now become a symbol of daily hardship for commuters. Traffic congestion and prolonged gate closures are not new issues here, but a recent incident has once again highlighted the severity of the problem.According to reports, a fire service vehicle carrying an accident victim rushed towards the hospital recently.

Unfortunately, it was forced to halt midway as the gate at the Durgapur railway crossing was closed. Despite being an emergency service, there was no alternative route available, and the personnel had no choice but to wait until the train passed. This delay has raised serious concerns about its impact on the victim’s treatment.Local residents allege that the crossing has been a persistent problem for years. Sudden gate closures at various times of the day often lead to long queues of vehicles. As a result, school students, office-goers, and even ambulances face severe inconvenience.

Residents have strongly demanded the construction of an overbridge at the Durgapur railway crossing. Although Bagbasa constituency MLA Jadab Lal Nath had earlier assured that steps would be taken, there is currently uncertainty regarding the progress of the project. The lack of visible development has led to growing public frustration.

A local resident said, “We suffer this ordeal every day. If even emergency vehicles get stuck, one can imagine the condition of ordinary people.”Experts believe that building an overbridge or an underpass at such a busy railway crossing is the need of the hour. Otherwise, the risk of major accidents or loss of life cannot be ruled out in the future.Residents have urged the administration to intervene promptly and provide a permanent solution. Now, all eyes are on when this long-standing issue will finally be resolved and bring relief to the people.
