Agartala, Tripura, 26th of April 2026 : With the initiative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized ‘Janakrosh Mahila Padyatra’ in Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (25th April, 2026).

Addressing at the event Hon’ble Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said that opposition parties have done injustice to women by opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill, which is not desirable in any way.
He added that women will give a befitting reply to this in the future.
Dr. Saha said this while participating in the Janakrosh Mahila Padyatra organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Agartala today, in protest against the non-passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Saha said, “We strongly condemn this. Everyone should support the motion proposal that we are bringing in the Assembly. As you all know, the bill called Nari Shakti Bandhan Adhiniyam, 2023, has become a law. After becoming a law, amendments often need to be introduced. During this process, it is observed that certain changes are required in some areas. For this reason, it has been brought to Parliament again. This need arises particularly with the aim of empowering women.”

He further said that in April 2026, the bill was once again presented in Parliament for amendment.
“In this context, the main issue is that its implementation will be significantly delayed. It has been stated that it cannot be implemented until the census is completed, as the census process is currently underway. Accordingly, we will have to wait for many more years. Therefore, the bill was brought again for amendment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to move the bill forward, as it was passed after extensive discussions. In this regard, he proposes certain changes based on the 2011 census. However, the opposition alliance—including Congress, Trinamool, CPIM, and other regional parties has opposed this bill,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha added that, in protest, women are taking out marches today and will give a befitting reply in the coming days.

Amidst the other distinguished leaders there were Bharatiya Janata Party state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Mahila Morcha President Mimi Majumdar, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, MLA Antara Deb Sarkar, and other senior party leaders were present at the event.
