Agartala, Tripura, 28th of July, 2026 : Keeping the people of the state healthy is the objective of the State Government Greater emphasis must be placed on increasing public awareness to elirninate hepatitis, and screening must also be continuously expanded. A hepatitis-free Tripura will be built within the next four years. Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said this while inaugurating the World Hepatitis Day observance programme at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan on Tuesday (28th July, 2026). The programme was organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in collaboration with the National Health Mission and the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
The Chief Minister said the day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Baruch Blumberg, who discovered the Hepatitis-B virus and developed the Hepatitis-B vaccine. He said that at present, around 300 million people worldwide are infected with the Hepatitis B and C viruses, calling it a kind of silent killer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken various initiatives to make the country completely hepatitis-free, and the state government too is implementing several programmes to make the state, hepatitis-free. Only scientific treatment systems and awareness can prevent the spread of this disease. Along with awareness campaigns for disease prevention, health workers at various levels in villages and towns must be given more training to make them more skilled. The government will continue to extend all forms of support to make Tripura hepatitis-free.
The Chief Minister said the government is working to build a state-of-the-art medical infrastructure in the state. At present, the number of internal referral patients from sub-divisions to districts, and from districts to the state’s main referral hospitals, has decreased significantly. The state currently has 9 super-specialty blocks in its healthcare services. Advanced medical services are being provided at GB, the state’s main referral hospital. A new government Homeopathy Medical College will be established in the state. The Chief Minister said the government is carrying out all developmental works in the state, including in health sector, for the comfort of future generations. Administrative work for the Medical University in the state will begin soon. As part of health awareness efforts, vaccination of children and adolescents continues.
The Chief Minister also noted that the 100 percent success of the “Sustha Shoishab Sustha Koishore” programme is a milestone for the state, and that 100 percent of people are benefiting from the Jan Arogya Yojana.
The Chief Minister said that vaccination against hepatitis should be encouraged in every part of the state, and public awareness efforts must be intensified further. The government has placed greater emphasis on vaccination to eliminate hepatitis Everyone must work together, keeping pace with reality, to resolve various challenges. The Chief Minister praised the various awareness initiatives undertaken by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura, and appealed to people from all sections of the state to cooperate in building a hepatitis-free Tripura.
At the programme, Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Health Department, speaking as a guest of honour, said the state government is working to take up the challenge of making the state hepatitis-free. The Health Department has placed emphasis on organizing more vaccination camps across various parts of the state. Dr. Pradip Bhowmik, Director of the Tripura Hepatitis Foundation, spoke on the subject of hepatitis at the event. Also present as guests of honour were Saju Vaheed A, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Tripura, and Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of the Health Department. The welcome address was delivered by Dibakar Debnath, General Secretary of the Tripura Hepatitis Foundation, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. N.L. Bhowmik, President of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura. At the event, the Chief Minister released a newsletter of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura and presented prizes to the first, second, and third place winners of an essay competition held on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day.
