Sabroom, Tripura, 13th of September, 2026 : A serious allegation has been levelled against local ruling-party leader Debjit Roy for allegedly disrupting development work being carried out at the Manu Bazar Rural Hospital.
According to reports, Dev Engineering Services of Agartala Sadar has been awarded the government contract to carry out internet and electrical works at Manu Bazar Rural Hospital. The agency is owned by Ankur Deb, while Sumit Raha of West Harina in Sabroom has been assigned responsibility for supervising the project. The work commenced at the hospital a few days ago.
According to the allegations, the day before yesterday morning, Debjit Roy, son of Dulal Roy and a resident of Sukanta Palli Gram Panchayat in Manu Bazar, went to the hospital and allegedly threatened a representative of the contracting agency, demanding a large sum of money. It is alleged that he forcibly stopped the work and issued an ultimatum that the work would remain suspended until the demanded money was paid.

Following the incident, Sumit Raha approached the local ruling-party leadership of the 39 Manu Mandal seeking justice. However, after receiving no satisfactory response, he finally approached the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Manu Bazar Police Station last night and lodged a written complaint against Debjit Roy.
Following the filing of the complaint, fresh allegations have emerged that Debjit Roy has been threatening Sumit Raha with dire consequences in various ways.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has repeatedly stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found obstructing government development works. Attention is now on what legal steps Manu Bazar Police takes against Debjit Roy over the allegations of halting development work and threatening Sumit Raha.
