Sonamura, Tripura, 20th of March, 2026 : Sonamura Police Station has detained a suspected drug peddler on Friday (20th March, 2026) on charges of involvement in illegal narcotics trade.

The detained individual has been identified as: Mannan Miah (36), S/O – Lt. Joynal Abedin, resident of Ballerdhepa, Sonamura Police Station, Sepahijala District, Tripura.
His name had previously surfaced in a narcotics case registered in 2016. He had been absconding for nearly ten years, staying away from the jurisdictions of both Belonia and Sonamura police stations. He has been handed over to Belonia Police Station in accordance with all legal procedures.
During interrogation by a special police team, several names and addresses of drug peddlers operating under the jurisdictions of Sonamura and Belonia police stations have emerged. The verification of these details is currently underway with the assistance of various state and central intelligence agencies. Based on appropriate evidence, more drug traffickers may be arrested from this area.
Interacted with media Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station gave details about this. OC also stated that such operations against illegal contrabands would continue next day.
