Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of April 2026 : A dramatic incident driven by a romantic relationship unfolded in Assam’s Sribhumi district. A man was detained on allegations of eloping with another man’s wife, creating a major commotion on the national highway at the Lowaipoya area on Monday afternoon.The accused is reportedly a constable of the Tripura Police.According to reports, Suman Sharma, a resident of Nayapara in Dharmanagar under North Tripura district, works at a private de-addiction center in the Asimganj area of Assam.
Taking advantage of his prolonged absence from home due to work, it is alleged that a close relationship developed between his wife and Tripura Police constable Prashanta Mallick, also known as Raju.It is also known that Suman Sharma’s wife is an active supporter of the ruling party in Dharmanagar.On Monday around 1 PM, while Suman Sharma was busy at his workplace, the accused constable allegedly attempted to flee with the woman. Sensing the situation, Sharma and his colleagues quickly chased them.They were eventually intercepted in front of the electricity department office at Lowaipoya.
Soon after, tensions escalated at the spot as a section of locals became agitated, leading to chaos on the national highway for some time. The accused constable was reportedly assaulted by the mob.Upon receiving information, police from Bazaricherra Police Station arrived at the scene, rescued both the constable and the woman, and took them to the police station.Police sources confirmed that an investigation into the entire incident has been initiated. The incident has triggered widespread sensation in the area.
