Agartala, Tripura, 29th of April 2026 : ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Regional Centre, Guwahati organized an ‘awareness-cum-input distribution programme for empowering tribal cage fishers of Sitacherra Lake, Mohanpur Sub-Division, West Tripura district of Tripura atthe Conference Hall of Pisciculture Knowledge Centre, Hezamara Block, under Superintendent of Fisheries, Mohanpur, West Tripura in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura on 29 April, 2026.
The programme was organized under the overall guidance of the Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore; the Director of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura; Dr. S. K. Majhi, Head, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati; Shri B. Roy, DDF, Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura; Smt. Dipmala Roy, SF, Mohanpur. It was coordinated by Dr. S. C. S. Das, Senior Scientists and Mr. B. C. Ray, ACTO. Dignitaries present in the programme includedShri Rabindra Debbarma, Hon’ble MDC, Simna Takmakari, TTAADC;Shri B. Roy, DDF, West Tripura, Dept. ofFisheries, Govt. of Tripura; Smt. Dipmala Roy, SF, Mohanpur, SF; Shri Bikash Debbarma, FO & Shri Asma Debbarma, FO among others.The programme was attended by 100 participants including cage fishers, officials, Scientists, public representatives, and media personnel.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Rabindra Debbarma, Hon’ble MDC, Simna Takmakari, TTAADC.During inaugural session, Shri B. Roy, DDF welcomed all participants and dignitaries for the day-long programme.In his address, he stated that two fishermen cooperatives: viz., Sitacherra Cage Culture Fish Farming Cooperative Society and Subalsing Cage Culture Fish Farming Cooperative Society with 72 fishers formed and provided with 72 no. of cages by the DoF, Tripura. He thanked ICAR-CIFRI for providing 12000 kg CIFRI cage grow feedfor initiating of cage culture in the lake. Dr. S.C.S Das explained the purpose of the programme and highlighted the research and extension activities carried out by the Institute for development of fisheries in Tripura.

He also highlighted the ICAR-CIFRI stands behind the flood-affected fish farmers of Tripura during the previous years..In their speech Shri Rabindra Debbarma, Hon’ble MDCexpressed that fish production from the lake can be doubled with scientific management thereby inflow of fishes from other states could be reduced drastically. Members of the Society thanked both the organization for conducting such a unique programme for their benefit and also requested ICAR-CIFRI for continuing their inputs and technology support in future. Inaugural session ended with formal vote of thanks by SmtDipmala Roy.

In the technical session, Dr. S. C. S. Das discussed important aspects of cage culture technology relevant to Tripura and also explained about different products and technologies developed by the Institute for benefits of farmers. Mr. B. C. Ray briefed about scientific merits of CIFRI CAGEGROW floating feed andinteracted and answered all queries raised by the participants in the programme. A total of 12000 kg CIFRI CageGrow floating fish feed was ceremonially distributed among the cage fishers of Sitacherra Lake by the Hon’ble delegates of the programme. The programme was ended with a formal vote of thanks.
