Indian live streaming platform Loco recently sold its majority stake to UAE-based investment firm Redwood in a $65 million deal. The 442 million internet users in rural India have a dominant presence in India, considering urban India has fallen behind with 378 million. The audience preferences and consumption patterns have influenced the world of gaming, including live streaming.
Overarching Presence
With live streaming becoming a constant presence in the gaming world, its influence on the Indian gamer continues to rise. For more than 50% of Generation Z and millennials, the decision to play a certain game is based on the recommendation of YouTube and Twitch live streamers and content creators. 56% of Gen Z and 48% of millennials have admitted that they trust a game more if their favourite live streamer has recommended the game.
With most of the popular gaming titles developed overseas, there is a strong English influence in the world of gaming. As more and more Indians gain access to smartphones, fast internet and gaming, the demand for vernacular content has been on the ascendancy. Popular live streamers and content creators are addressing this demand through their content, thereby amassing a massive fan following in the process.
