Massive Fire Breaks Out At Three Shops In Dharmanagar Rajbari, Anger Over Fire Brigade Delay.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 24th of August, 2026 : A massive fire broke out at three shops in the Rajbari Bottarshi area of Dharmanagar subdivision on Sunday (23rd August, 2026) evening, creating panic in the locality. A garage, a tea stall and a holding shop were reportedly affected in the blaze. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit, followed by a possible explosion.

According to local sources, the fire suddenly broke out at one of the shops in the evening and quickly spread to the adjoining establishments. The intensity of the flames caused panic among residents in the surrounding area. Tyres and other materials stored inside the shops were destroyed, causing extensive damage to all three establishments.One of the shop owners, Tinku Shil, said that the situation could have been brought under control earlier had the fire brigade engine reached the spot on time. He alleged that the delay in reaching the site allowed the fire to become more serious.Questions have also been raised over the route taken by the fire engine.

Local residents alleged that illegal parking at several points along the Rajbari main road created significant difficulties for the fire brigade vehicle. The poor condition of the road, which has reportedly remained a concern for a long time, was also cited as a major obstacle to the rapid movement of emergency vehicles.The incident has therefore highlighted not only the damage caused to the shops but also concerns over the condition of roads and traffic management in the area. Local residents expressed strong resentment over alleged inadequate traffic monitoring and failure to control illegal parking. Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control. Preliminary estimates suggest that property worth lakhs of rupees may have been damaged, although the exact extent of the loss has not yet been assessed. Whether an electrical short circuit was actually responsible for the fire will be confirmed only after an investigation.

Following the incident, local residents questioned who would be held responsible if fire engines are unable to reach an emergency site quickly because of illegal parking and poor roads. They have demanded immediate road repairs in the Rajbari area, strict action against illegal parking and measures to ensure unobstructed movement of emergency service vehicles.
