NIT Agartala Celebrated 17th Convocation Ceremony.

Agartala, Tripura,18th of January, 2025 : The 17 Convocation of NIT Agartala is scheduled on Saturday, 18 January 2024 (3.00 p.m. onwards) at the Institute Campus (Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall).

Padma Shri Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ray, Former Director, IIEST Shibpur, Retired Professor, IIT Kharagpur has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest of the function and will deliver the Convocation Address.

Shri Bined Bawri, Chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Agartala will preside over the function. Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Patra, Director, NIT Agartala, will award the degrees to the graduates.

NIT Agartala, an Institute of National Importance, was established by the Government of India with the mission to promote excellence in technical education and research in the North-East region. Presently, 5,092 students are enrolled at NTT Agartala. The institute offers a B.Tech program in nine branches, 24 specializations at the M.Tech level, and five branches in the Dual Degree program. Additionally, the institute offers B.Sc.-B.Ed., MBA, MCA, M.Sc., and Doctoral programs. Currently, around 300 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. degrees in various fields.

The four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program was introduced in the academic session 2023-24. The first batch of B.Sc.-B.Ed. students is in the third semester, while another batch has recently joined in the first semester. The program aims to prepare teachers for secondary education in the science stream, aligning with the new structure of NEP 2020.

In this convocation, 48 Ph.D., 86M. Tech,26 MCA, 23MBA, 30M.Sc,844,B.Tech, 55 RS, 20 BT,39 BSMS and 5 BTMT graduates will receive their degrees.

It is important to mention here that Surup Chakrabarty from Electronics and Communication Engineering stands as the Institute Topper among BTech graduates, Pritam Chakraborty from Civil Engineering has emerged as the Institute Topper in MTech, Sampriti Dey from MSc Mathematics is the topper in MSc and Subhrangshu Datta tops in dua degree.

NIT Agartala’s contributions are on par with the top technical instirates in the country. In the academic year 2023-24, the NIT Agartala fraternity published more than 1,122 research papers in prestigious Science Citation Index (SCI) and Scopus-indexed journals. International conferences and workshops were also organized during this period. Notably, NIT Agartala has an impressive record in patent-related achievements: 10 patents were filed, 5 patents were published, and 16 patents were granted in the year 2024.

NIT Agartala consistently ranks among the top 100 institutions in the country in the Engineering category. The institute has maintained this position for the last seven years. In 2024, it secured the 82 position among engineering institutes in India, as per the NIRF ranking by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The institute has a Center for Career Development that coordinates student training and placement opportunities. Besides this, the center conducts workshops, organizes webinars, and facilitates mock training and mock interviews through hybrid mode to enhance students’ career prospects.

In the academic year 2023-24, B.Tech students received 839 job offers from various organizations. Notable companies include HPCL., OTPC, Power Grid, CDAC, Saint-Gobain, Google, Amazon, L&T, Capgemini, Nokia, Wipro, Orack, Virtusa, Infosys, Reliance Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd., Dassault Systèmes, Alstom, Accenture, Amdocs, Caterpillar, Texas Instruments, Morgan Stanley, Ashok Leyland, Asian Paints, Schneider Electric, Adobe, Siemens, ABB, Nvidia, Tata Advanced Systems, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Chemicals, among others. More than 300 companies visited NIT Agartala for placement drives during the last academic year.

NIT Agartala achieved remarkable placement statistics for B.Tech students in the academic year 2023-24, with an impressive 80.88% placement rate (Registered B.Tech students = 753, Total B.Tech students placed=609). The average salary for B.Tech graduates was 9.78 LPA (Lakh Per Annum), while the highest package offered was 52 LPA.

During the academic period, students at the institute secured internships in various reputed organizations. Some of the notable companies include Google, Intait, Intel, Wipro, Caim Oil, Saint-Gobain, IITs, ONGC, IOCL, and NEEPCO. Last year, internships were arranged for nearly 90% of the students.

First ever incubation centre, offered by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was established at NIT Agartala in (2018). The institute faculty members across departments are involved in 9 projects sponsored by ISRO and S-TIC-NE, ISRO, Government of India.

NIT Agartala is committed to implement NEP 2020 and the institute is working in mission mode to achieve the target. Some initiatives with this include MOU(s) have been signed between NIT Agartala and different National & International Institution/Universities for Credit transfer and Research collaboration, and many others.

Five Faculty Members of NTT Agartala are listed in Top 2% Influential Scientists globally in the last year by Stanford University and Elsevier. The details are as follows:

Dr. Paramvir Singh, has been selected by The French Institute in India and the Embassy of France for the prestigious Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowship (SSHN) Programme 2024.

The Skill Development Training Centre (SDTC) of the institute is functioning effectively. It provides technical skill-based training to enhance the knowledge and skills of rural communities in neighboring areas on the use of technology. The Centre for Rural & Tribal Development (CRTD) of the institute organizes various activities throughout the year.

The CRTD organized the 5th Tripura/Tipra Language (Kokborok) Training and Certificate Distribution Programme on December 3, 2024. Shri Animesh Debbarma, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Department of Forest, General Administration (Printing & Stationery), and Science, Technology & Environment, Government of Tripura, inaugurated the program. The Hon’ble Cabinet Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall on the same day.

Over the past year, NIT Agartala received nearly 79 lakh for various testing and consultancy activities. The total value of ongoing projects funded by different organizations is approximately 2705 lakh across various research domains.

NIT Agartala has signed MoUs with several institutions of national and international repute, including IIT Madras, IT Hyderabad, IIT Jammu, IIM Visakhapatnam, the University of Durham (UK), the Research for Resurgence Foundation (RFRF), SHRM Biotechnologies, the Directorate of Information Technology (DTT), Government of Tripura, and the North-Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Meghalaya, among others. Under these MoUs, NIT Agartala will collaborate on conferences, workshops, short-term courses, research projects, internships, training programs, and access to laboratories, libraries, and other facilities. These agreements also provide students with opportunities to access resources at various partner institutions.

The institute has several technical clubs, including the ACM Club, Robotics Club, SAE Club, Aviation Club, Literary Club, Music Club, Photographic Club, and E-Cell, among others, to help students develop technical and organizational skills. Besides this, the institute conducts awareness programs and other activities throughout the year. Some of these include International Yoga Day, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, National Science Day, Hindi Saptah, the Study Connect Program, Vigilance Week, the Year of Millets, and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

NIT Agartala has shown remarkable performance in various domains, including academics, student placements, infrastructure, academia-industry interface, physical education & sports, and alumni involvement. The institute has received continuous support from its alumni, who play a vital role in motivating students. Additionally. NIT Agartala is equipped with high-quality laboratories that provide students with opportunities to work independently. Due to its consistent performance, the institute has established itself as a center of technological excellence within a short period.

The much-awaited convocation ceremony reflects our commitment to quality education imparted to the graduates of 2024. The chairman of the organizing committee, Prof. S.K. Patra, Director, NIT Agartala; Convenor, Prof Rajib Saha, Dean (AA), NIT Agartala; and Professor In- Charge of the 17th Convocation, Prof. Richi Prasad Sharma, NIT Agartala, with the kind co- operation of the all the faculties and staffs made dedicated efforts to ensure the grand success of this event.
