Sabroom, Tripura, 28th July, 2026 : A Sabroom court has sentenced a Pakistani woman arrested from Sabroom Railway Station to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000. The verdict was delivered by the Sabroom court at 2 PM on July 27. The woman has been identified as Louis Nigat, also known as Bhanu, aged 65 years.
According to report the Pakistani woman was arrested from Sabroom Railway Station on Saturday, October 11, at around 9 PM. The woman has been identified as Louis Nigat, also known as Bhanu (65), a resident of Lahore, Pakistan. Preliminary information suggests that she had earlier been imprisoned in Kathmandu, Nepal, in connection with a drug-related case.
It is reported that during the Gen Z movement in Nepal in September, several prisoners escaped from a jail in Kathmandu, and the woman was among those who fled.
According to sources, on 6 June 2014, Louis Nigat, also known as Bhanu (65), along with another woman, was arrested by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police in Nepal with a large quantity of cocaine. The consignment was allegedly being routed from Pakistan through Nepal to Nigeria.
She was subsequently sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment in Nepal. Reports suggest that after escaping from the jail on 10 September 2025, she stayed in Bihar, India before being arrested.
According to reports, the Pakistani woman travelled from Bihar to Sabroom via Siliguri by the Kanchanjunga Express train, reportedly with the intention of entering Bangladesh.
Questions have been raised over how she managed to enter India without any valid documents. After entering India, she allegedly travelled through Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal before reaching Tripura. Authorities are investigating the route she took and the circumstances surrounding her movement within the country.
No security personnel reportedly noticed her movements, raising fresh questions over the security arrangements and law enforcement mechanisms in the state and the country.
It is further reported that several mobile phone numbers were recovered from the woman’s possession. After examining the evidence and recording statements during the trial, the Sabroom court sentenced the Pakistani woman to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.
