Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of April 2026 : The Dharmanagar District Hospital, the main healthcare center in North Tripura, is currently facing an acute shortage of blood. Critically ill patients who require urgent transfusions are unable to get adequate blood from the hospital’s blood bank, leading to severe difficulties for both patients and their families.

According to local sources, every day multiple cases such as accidents, surgeries, and serious illnesses require blood transfusions. However, the amount of blood available in the blood bank is far below the demand. As a result, patients’ relatives are being forced to search for blood outside—through voluntary organizations, personal contacts, or social media. In many cases, delays in arranging blood are reportedly worsening patients’ conditions.
A relative of one patient said, “Doctors are asking us to arrange blood immediately, but when we go to the blood bank, they say there is no supply. We are trying everywhere, but it is very difficult to find blood in such a short time.”When approached, hospital authorities also acknowledged the shortage but did not provide a detailed explanation. Questions are now being raised about whether the crisis is due to a decline in voluntary blood donations or other underlying issues. The situation has sparked concern among the general public. A section of concerned citizens believes that if the issue is not resolved quickly, it could lead to a more serious crisis in the future. They have demanded immediate steps to replenish the blood stock at the hospital’s blood bank, along with improvements in infrastructure and proper management to ensure adequate reserves.
Meanwhile, the state’s healthcare system is coming under scrutiny. Concerned citizens have urged the State Health Minister and the Chief Minister to intervene promptly, emphasizing that the issue is highly sensitive and humanitarian. They stress that immediate action is necessary to ensure that no patient faces life-threatening situations due to a lack of blood in the future.
