State Cabinet Moums The Death Of DGP Anurag Dhankar.

Agartala, Tripura, 20th July, 2026 : The Tripura State Council of Ministers on Sunday (20th July, 2026) expressed profound grief over the untimely demise of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar (IPS) and observed a two-minute silence in his memory during the Cabinet meeting.

Paying deep tributes, the Cabinet praised Dhankar’s distinguished career in public service. A 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, he began his service in the state in 1995 and held several key positions, from Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to DGP, earning recognition for his dedication, integrity and professionalism.

The Cabinet also acknowledged his notable contributions at the national and international levels, including service in the UN Mission in Kosovo and important assignments with the CBI, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and CISF. He was honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Distinguished Police Medal for his exemplary service.

Describing his death as an irreparable loss, the Cabinet said Tripura has lost a dedicated, honest and visionary police officer whose leadership and commitment to public service will be remembered for years. It extended heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of his soul. As a mark of respect, the State Government has declared a one-day state mourning on July 21. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings where it is regularly hoisted, and no official entertainment programmes will be held on the day.
