Khowai, Tripura, 26th of July 2026 : The Teliamura District Congress on Monday organised a two-hour mass sit-in demonstration near Kohinoor Complex in Khowai under the banner of the Tripura Pradesh Unorganised Workers’ Congress. The protest was held against the recent hike in electricity tariffs and demanded higher wages and allowances for Mid-Day Meal workers, ASHA workers, and other unorganised labourers.

The programme was led by Teliamura District Congress President Pradyut Bhattacharjee, senior Tripura Pradesh Congress leader Kartik Debnath, former teacher and senior Pradesh Congress leader Paritosh Das, Khowai District Congress leader Nikhil Chakraborty, along with many other party leaders and workers were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering during today’s mass sit-in demonstration, Teliamura District Congress President Pradyut Bhattacharjee criticised both the State and Central Governments. He strongly protested the alleged increase in electricity charges, claiming that the power utility was burdening ordinary consumers through various additional fees.
He also stated that if the State and Central Governments fail to take appropriate steps to address the grievances of electricity consumers and other deprived and affected sectionjts of society, the Tripura Pradesh Congress and the Teliamura District Congress will launch larger and more intensified protest movements in the coming days.
