Dharmanagar, Tripura, 26th of July 2026 : A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 60-year-old man on Sunday night on the alternative National Highway near Debbarma Basti under Rajnagar Gram Panchayat in Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura.The deceased has been identified as Prafulla Debnath (60), a resident of Ward No. 3 of Rajnagar village and the eldest son of Kamini Debnath.According to local residents, the accident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. when Prafulla Debnath was crossing the road. A speeding scooter travelling from Anandabazar towards Dharmanagar allegedly hit him with great force. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured.
Locals immediately rushed to the spot and informed the Fire and Emergency Services. Fire Service personnel arrived promptly, rescued the injured man, and shifted him to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead after examination.Police said the scooter involved in the accident bears registration number TR05-6290. Two youths travelling on the scooter also sustained injuries.
One of them, Anupam Sonowal (27), is originally from Assam but currently resides in Madhuban ADC Village. The other, Pranoy Tripura, the rider of the scooter, is also a resident of Madhuban. Both are undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital.Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.The sudden death of Prafulla Debnath has cast a pall of gloom over Rajnagar, with family members and local residents mourning the tragic loss.
