Agartala, Tripura, 1st of June 2026 : Agartala Municipal Corporation has presented a budget of ₹175 crore, 91 lakh and 2 thousand for the financial year 2026–27. The budget has been designed with the objective of developing Agartala into a clean, pollution-free, traffic-congestion-free, and modern city.

Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Dipak Majumder unveiled the budget during a press briefing held at the Agartala Municipal Corporation Conference Hall on Monday (1st June, 2026).
Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Monika Das Dutta, chairpersons of different zones, MIC members, the Additional Municipal Commissioner, and senior officials of the corporation were present at the event.

Addressing the press conference, the Mayor stated that the budget estimates total receipts at ₹174 crore 93 lakh 35 thousand. The proposed budget reflects a deficit of ₹97 lakh 67 thousand. The budget has been formulated without imposing any new tax burden on the citizens.
Out of the total expenditure, ₹836 crore 45 lakh 45 thousand has been earmarked for capital expenditure. To enhance the Corporation’s own-source revenue, a target of ₹80 crore 19 lakh has been set under the “Swayamsiddha Agartala” initiative. To achieve this goal, the Corporation will strengthen GIS-based property tax systems, implement online building permission services, and intensify monitoring through a dedicated special task force.
The Municipal Corporation has also taken a significant step toward digital governance by introducing an e-budgeting system for the first time. Several projects have been undertaken to make the city free from waterlogging and flooding. More than ₹27 crore will be spent on the construction of modern pump houses in the Shakuntala Road, Satsang Ashram–Krishnanagar, and Ramnagar areas. In addition, ₹4 crore has been allocated for the rejuvenation of Katakhal.

To promote a cleaner and healthier city, the Corporation has earmarked ₹2.20 crore for the “Mosquito-Free Agartala” programme and plans to spend ₹37.50 crore on solid waste management initiatives.
“Priority has been given to easing traffic congestion through the development of new parking zones and multilevel parking facilities. The proposed budget also includes plans to create alternative vending zones for street vendors. The multilevel car parking project at the Old Motor Stand area, with a capacity to accommodate 288 vehicles, is nearing completion. Additionally, large parking zones are planned at the Howrah Development Park and the former TRTC premises”, Mayor of AMC added.
The Mayor announced that the budget includes several major development projects worth ₹168.14 crore. These include the construction of a multistorey mall and parking complex at a cost of ₹20 crore, the development of Netaji Subhas Playground for ₹12 crore, footpath renovation works worth ₹10 crore, and the construction of CC roads and RCC drains in the Ramnagar and Battala areas.
For the first time in the Northeast, Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative to issue Municipal Bonds worth ₹100 crore. The funds raised through these bonds will be utilized to transform the Maharajganj, Lake Chowmuhani, GB, and Border Golchakkar markets into modern marketplaces.
The budget also proposes the construction of a modern community wedding hall at a cost of ₹5 crore to benefit low-income and economically weaker sections of society.

With assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), a ₹167 crore project will be implemented to upgrade 19 kilometres of roads, modernize the city’s drainage system, and construct a water treatment plant with a capacity of 20 MLD (million litres per day). As a result, more than 6,500 families will gain access to new drinking water connections.
As part of its healthcare improvement initiatives, the Agartala Municipal Corporation plans to upgrade Agartala Civil Hospital into the “state’s first 50-bed fully digital civil hospital”. The modernized hospital will offer advanced diagnostic and treatment services, including X-ray, ultrasonography, a fully equipped laboratory, operation theatre, emergency care, and specialist medical consultations.
Keeping in mind women’s safety and public convenience, the budget also includes plans for the construction of “Pink Toilets” in various wards, along with the establishment of a new modern ward office.
Addressing the press conference, the Mayor stated that the proposed budget serves as a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at transforming Agartala into a modern and smart city through planned and sustainable urban growth.
