Dharmanagar, Tripura, 20th of July 2026 : Dharmanagar Police have arrested a Bangladeshi woman for allegedly residing illegally in India using forged identity documents, along with a local youth accused of providing her shelter and assistance.
According to police sources, a case (No. 2026/DMN PS/45) was registered at Dharmanagar Police Station on Saturday (18th July, 2026) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Immigration Act, and the Foreigners Act.
The arrested Bangladeshi woman has been identified as Somaiya Begum (29), a resident of Narsingdi District, Bangladesh. The other accused, Anwar Hossain (23), is the son of Abdul Hannan and a resident of West Chandrapur under Dharmanagar Subdivision in North Tripura.
Police said the two were apprehended during a raid at Abdul Hannan’s residence in West Chandrapur. Preliminary investigation revealed that Somaiya Begum had been living in the house for a considerable period. Suspicion arose after discrepancies were detected in the Aadhaar card she was using. Further inquiry reportedly confirmed that she is a Bangladeshi national.
Anwar Hossain was also arrested for allegedly providing shelter and facilitating her illegal stay in India.
Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Meena Debbarma said that, based on the findings of the investigation, a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Immigration Act and the Foreigners Act. Both accused have been produced before the Dharmanagar Court.
Police added that the investigation is continuing to determine whether any other individuals were involved and whether an organized network was behind the preparation or procurement of the forged identity documents.
