Dharmanagar, Tripura, 23rd of May 2026 : There seems to be no end to the allegations surrounding Dharmanagar District Hospital in North Tripura. One after another, serious complaints and instances of mismanagement are continuously coming to light. Following recent public outrage over the poor condition of drinking water and toilets at the hospital, fresh concerns have now emerged regarding several illegally operating tea stalls and snack shops within the hospital premises, along with the unauthorized use of electricity connections by these establishments.

When the attention of the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Bhaskar Das, was drawn to the matter, he stated that notices had already been issued to the shop owners concerned. He further said that if the shops are not removed within the stipulated time, action will be taken with the assistance of the administration.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s main entrance remains congested throughout the day due to the parking of multiple public vehicles, causing severe inconvenience for patients arriving in emergency situations. Responding to questions on the issue, the Medical Superintendent said that the matter had been raised several times with the concerned authorities and that the intervention of the local MLA had also been sought to resolve the problem.
Serious concerns have also been raised regarding the hospital’s infrastructure. It has been reported that out of the six generator machines available at the district hospital, two are currently out of order. Managing the hospital’s entire power supply with the remaining four generators has become increasingly difficult.
However, the Medical Superintendent informed that the repair work for the damaged generators is already underway.Amid all this, one of the most serious allegations concerns the diet provided to admitted patients. According to complaints, although milk and eggs are officially included in patients’ prescribed meals, many patients are allegedly not receiving them in reality. When questioned about this issue, the Medical Superintendent stated that no written complaint regarding the matter had reached him and that he was unaware of such allegations.
During the interaction, the Medical Superintendent appeared visibly uncomfortable while facing a series of questions from journalists regarding various irregularities, mismanagement, and service-related issues at the hospital. Public anger and concern over the overall condition of the district hospital continue to grow. Now, all eyes are on how quickly the administration, the Health Department, and the local MLA can intervene to bring about a permanent solution to these ongoing problems.
